To construct the professional career like the one of Miss Van, based in the feeling and femininity is a challenge that requires several principles and a tremendous determination. The feelings are the ones in charge of not losing the direction while the determination faces with the conveniences of the trail, the risk of the monotony that characterize some artist when they transform their artworks into a massive product. In the case of Miss Van, and in the pieces that are shown in the exhibition “Flor de piel”, we can verify the gentle evolution of its imaginary and the restatement of a formula, that, without disassociate of the past productions, adds depth that can only be obtained by the experience.
More than two decades come between since Miss Van burst the scene of the urban art and this exhibition “Flor de piel”. From a pioneer in a complex world to a woman that contemplates the travelled distance with wisdom, with the ability to integrate in her artworks all the knowledge, even though she knows the rule have changed through the years. The first murals that were made across the city overnights have become in ambitious projects that require weeks of planning. They are enormous walls like facades the challenge of the new urban artist, or the veteran, like Miss Van, that understood that bringing the backgrounds to the present turns out more interesting than returning to them. On the other hand, the displacements on the time usually lead to changes, forcing to adapt from the begging to the present, that’s the reason its pictorial nature has not resisted when taken again to the murals. Each mural is a different formal approach, an effort of execution and distinction, imposing the quality over quantity.
Dangerous perfectionism but necessary because it serves as language that Miss Van uses to express its extremely sensitivity. This sensibility that is crucial to its work is not so practical in her daily life. Fortunately, one of the advantages is that her artistic maturity allows her to identify the weakness and to transform it in her artistic inspiration. The default, the doubt, to understand that others come behind here, to know that the reference of many artists, especially women that like here want to show that there is no gender gap, only creative and dedicated people, all these things add up to the uncertainty that rises in the canvas. Regardless, these are all part of what it goes with the all in a day’s work.
“Flor de piel” it’s the result of the creativity that connects with the concerns of the classical romanticism, with the more self-conscious that goes behind a new perspective that explores through the feelings across the sublime… Intimate rhetoric, personal, seeking within the vast human feelings. Miss Van fleets through all this gathering to create her artworks. It is an exercise of courtship, with a high and constructive eroticism, capable of establish new and deep lines of dialogue.
It is claimed in many occasions that the Miss Van’s characters are representations of the artist itself, but the key, in its case, does not run between what it seems, but what it really is, in essences, in knowing, in remaining true to oneself in a world of hostile appearances.
